Lip Lift

A lip lift is a surgery to shorten the space in-between the nose and the top of the lip, known as the “philtrum.” The procedure increases the amount of pink tissue that’s visible which makes the lips look fuller than they actually are.

What can lip lifting do?

Lip lift is a cosmetic surgery which makes the upper lift look larger and more pronounced. You are a good candidate if you have more than 1.5 centimetres between the base of your nose and top of your lift.

How is lip lift performed?

After the treatment area is numbed, with local anaesthesia, the surgeon makes a small incision under the nose removing a small strip of tissue and skin from there. Surgeon places sutures to the area elevating the position of the lip and increasing the volume of the pink portion of the upper lip.

What is the recovery like after the surgery?

The day of the procedure and the day after, a slight pain can be experienced which can be easily managed with the pain medication we will provide for you. Lip and cheek area will be swollen after the surgery. During the first week, the upper lip might appear as being shorter than before. You will experience that it will reach a normal length as the swelling from the surgery subsides. The scarring is going to be visible for 3-4 months and will become less noticeable as it fades. The final results can be seen in 12-18 months.

How is the aftercare?

Upon discharge you will be given an antibiotic tablet the night of surgery and take all tablets as prescribed and until finish the tablets. The sutures will be removed on the 4th day after the surgery. You should avoid alcohol, cigarettes, and caffeine, for these will drastically slow down the healing process.

How should I prepare for a lip lift?

Before getting a lip lift, you need to read carefully the instructions your surgeon will give you and take care of you in an adequate way before the surgery. Kick off with a complete and detailed consultation with a trusted plastic surgeon first to determine what you are concerned about and your surgical plan, and share any medical records and information to help disclose any potential complications.

Your lips should be healthy for the week before the lip lift and get a balanced diet, drink enough water, and stop smoking or using tobacco or other nicotine products because such things interfere with the treatment and raise your chances of complications. Further, report any drugs or nutritional supplements you are already taking or whether you need to stop taking or reduce your dosage of certain drugs prior to surgery.

Who’s a good candidate for a lip lift?

Good candidates for a lip lift may include:

-People having a line from the nose to the top of the lip relatively long, which can increase some extrasensory power.

-These individuals may be seeking fillers, but depending on their desire they may require additional procedures to achieve their goal of fuller, more shapely lips.

-Thin upper lip patients or who are missing definition at the border of the lips.

-Patients seeking to look younger and thinner gradually can choose to undergo a non-surgical treatment targeting the lower-third of the face.

It usually works fine for people who have decent health status but have reasonable expectations about the result of the method.

What are the types of Lip Lifts?

Several lip lift procedures exist, each designed to address specific aspects of the lips and adjacent facial features. The primary categories of lip lifts comprise:

Bullhorn Lip Lift: This prevalent lip lift variant commences with an incision positioned just beneath the nasal base, tracing the natural curvature of the nostrils, mirroring the shape of a bull’s horns. Through this incision, surplus skin is excised, and the upper lip is elevated to reveal more of its vermilion (pink region).

Italian Lip Lift: This method resembles the bullhorn lip lift but entails incisions along the vermillion border of the upper lip. It is especially beneficial for individuals with minimal excess skin who seek to redefine and accentuate the upper lip.

Corner Lip Lift: Recognized as the “smile lift,” this technique concentrates on the mouth’s corners. It involves creating minor incisions at the mouth’s edges to elevate and rejuvenate drooping corners, fostering a more vibrant and uplifted mouth appearance.

Gull Wing Lip Lift: In this approach, incisions follow the upper lip’s vermillion border, resembling the winged structure of a seagull. Excess skin is excised, and the upper lip is elevated to uncover more of the pink lip tissue.

Subnasal Lip Lift: This method necessitates an incision directly beneath the nose to eliminate surplus skin and lift the upper lip, revealing additional vermilion. The resulting scar is concealed within the natural nasal crease.

Advantages of a Lip Lift:

A lip lift offers several advantages, such as:

-Long-lasting outcomes.
-Enhances the perception of increased lip volume.
-Restores a youthful facial appearance.
-Enhances the aesthetics of your smile.
-Elevates self-assurance and confidence levels.
