Hair transplantation is a medical procedure that uses the patient’s own hair follicles from a donor area to create a fuller, denser head of hair in the desired recipient area. During the hair transplant procedure, the healthy hair follicles are carefully removed from the donor area and then relocated to the thinning or balding areas of the scalp. The hair follicles are then able to grow normally, resulting in a much fuller and healthier-looking head of hair.

Hair transplant surgery is a permanent solution to baldness or thinning that involves taking hair bulbs from the nuchal region and implanting them into the areas where loss of hair has occurred. The whole process requires local aesthesia and is natural. Nuannce Health offers a natural-looking hair restoration to clients who are experiencing baldness, utilizing the most modern FUE and DHI techniques. Contact us to get an appointment.

The Stages of Hair Transplantation

The stages of hair transplantation include preparing the donor area, creating recipient sites, harvesting the follicles, implanting the follicles, and monitoring recovery.

Preparing: The first step is to prepare the donor area, usually the back or sides of the head, by numbing the area with medication and shaving the hair.

Channel opening: Then, small incisions are made in the balding or thinning areas to create recipient sites.

Harvesting: The next step is harvesting the follicles from the donor area, which is done by carefully removing individual follicles from the skin.

Planting: After the follicles have been collected from the donor area, they are placed one by one into the open channels at a 40–45-degree angle to complete the hair transplant procedure

Today, various hair transplantation methods are utilized depending on the needs and preferences.

There are several methods for hair transplantation, but the two most commonly used are:

FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation): Also known as traditional method, this procedure involves removing a strip of hair-bearing skin from the back of the head and then separating the strip into individual hair follicles, which are then transplanted to the recipient area.

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction): This procedure involves extracting individual hair follicles from the back of the head (or other donor area) using a small circular punch and then transplanting them to the recipient area.

Sapphire FUE: where a sapphire-tipped tool is used to extract hair follicles from the donor area. The sapphire tip is said to be more durable and precise than the standard metal blades used in FUE, resulting in less damage to the hair follicles and a lower risk of complications.

DHI (Direct Hair Implantation): This is similar to FUE but, in DHI method the hair follicles are extracted using a special tool called a «choi pen» and then immediately implanted into the scalp. Recovery time is shorter than traditional strip method and there is no linear scar. The Choi method is an effective way to protect hair in the early stages of hair loss.

Frequently Asked Questions

Among all methods, DHI and Sapphire FUE methods is considered less invasive and less traumatic for the hair follicles and is said to result in faster healing and less visible scarring. At Nuannce Health, we only offer these methods which are considered to be less invasive.

An ideal candidate for a hair transplant is someone who:

  • Has a stable pattern of hair loss: Hair loss can be caused by a variety of factors, and it’s important to determine the cause before undergoing a hair transplant. If the cause is temporary (such as stress or certain medications), the hair loss may not be permanent and a transplant may not be the best option.
  • Has enough healthy hair in the donor area: In general, the ideal donor density is around 60-80 follicular units per square cm. This means that there are enough hair follicles in the donor area to achieve the desired results without leaving the donor area too thin.
  • Has realistic expectations: A hair transplant can improve the appearance of hair loss, but it cannot restore a full head of hair. It’s important to have realistic expectations about the results of the procedure.

In general, it takes between 6-8 hours.

At Nuannce Health, we offer a free consultation with one of our trusted surgeons to assess your eligibility.

Not everyone is a good candidate for a hair transplant. Some people may not be able to have the procedure due to certain factors such as:

Age: If a person is younger than 25 years old, a hair transplant may not be the best option. In this case, patient may lose hair after the transplant which results in a highly unnatural look.

Insufficient donor hair: A hair transplant requires healthy hair follicles from a donor area, usually the back and sides of the head A density lower than 60 follicular units per square cm may not be sufficient to achieve the desired outcome.

Health conditions: Some health conditions (such as emophilia or von Willebrand disease) autoimmune disorders (lupus or rheumatoid arthritis), blood disorders or chronic illnesses (such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease), may make a hair transplant too risky.

Scarring Alopecia: conditions like Cicatricial alopecia, Traction alopecia, and other causes of scarring alopecia will make the person not a good candidate for hair transplant.

After the hair transplant procedure, it is important for patients to follow their doctor’s instructions and take the prescribed medication. They should avoid sun exposure for about a week, as UV rays can affect the pigmentation of the skin and cause discoloration or darkening of scars. Some patients may experience discomfort such as tightness and itching on the scalp, but this is usually temporary. It is normal for the newly transplanted hair to fall out 2-3 months after the surgery. It can take around 4 months for the hair to start growing back and up to 12 months for full recovery. The recovery period may vary from person to person.

Transplanted hair is permanent and typically lasts a lifetime. The hair follicles that are transplanted are genetically resistant to hair loss, so once they are implanted in the recipient area, they should continue to grow for the rest of the person’s life.

However, it’s important to note that even though the transplanted hair is permanent, it can still be affected by the same factors that cause hair loss in the native hair. This means that over time, the person may lose some of their native hair and the density of the transplanted hair may decrease.

The duration of stay for hair transplant in Turkey depends on the type of procedure. For Sapphire FUE (Sapphire Follicular Unit Extraction) and DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) methods, the procedure usually takes one day, and the patient can return to their hotel the next day. However, the patients will need to stay in Turkey for at least 4 days to complete the initial follow-up and to receive post-operative instructions.
