A breast lift, or Mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that raises and reshapes sagging breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue. The procedure can also reposition the nipples and areolas to a higher, more youthful position. Mastopexy can be performed alone or in conjunction with breast augmentation for those who wish to increase the size of their breasts as well as lift them. It’s important to note that a breast lift will not change the size of the breasts but can be combined with breast augmentation to do so. It’s important to discuss the goals and expectations with a board-certified plastic surgeon before the procedure to ensure the best result.
At Nuannce Health, our surgeons strive to provide you with the most desirable outcome for your breast lift by lifting your breasts to a higher more youthful position. To schedule a consultation and learn more about the procedure, please reach out to us.
What can Breast Lift do?
A breast lift, or Mastopexy, can do several things to improve the appearance of the breasts, including:
- Raise sagging breasts: The procedure can remove excess skin and lift the breasts to a higher, more youthful position.
- Reposition the nipples: The procedure can reposition the nipples and areolas to a higher position and make them symmetrical.
- Improve breast shape: The procedure can reshape the breasts and create a more rounded, youthful appearance.
- Increase self-confidence: Many women who have undergone a breast lift report feeling more confident and self-assured about their bodies after the procedure.
How is Breast Lift procedure performed?
The procedure is typically done under general anaesthesia and take around 2-3 hours. The incisions are usually made around the areola, in a vertical line from the bottom of the areola to the breast crease, and along the breast crease.
After the procedure, patients may experience some swelling, soreness and bruising, but these symptoms usually subside within a few weeks. The final results of the procedure may take a few months to fully appear.
What is the recovery like after a Breast Lift surgery?
After a breast lift surgery, patients are usually required to wear a surgical bra for a period of four to six weeks. The surgical bra is typically worn for the first few days and then it is replaced by a sports bra or a soft cup bra. The purpose of the bra is to provide support to the newly shaped breast, to reduce swelling and to hold the shape of the breast in place.
How is the aftercare of a Breast Lift Surgery?
The aftercare for a breast augmentation surgery includes the following:
- Pain Management: The patient will experience some pain and discomfort after the surgery. Surgeon may prescribe an anti-inflammatory medication, such as ibuprofen, to help reduce swelling and inflammation, medication to prevent blood clots, such as heparin; an oral pain medication such as an opioid to manage pain and antibiotics to prevent infection.
- Surgical Bra: Generally, most patients will wear a surgical bra or compression garment for the first four weeks after the surgery as directed by the surgeon. This will help to support the breasts and to control swelling during the healing process.
- Incision Care: The patient will need to keep the incision site clean and dry. The patient will be advised to avoid showering for a certain period of time after the surgery, usually 48-72 hours, to allow the incision site to begin healing properly.
- Physical Activity: The patient will be advised to avoid strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, or any physically demanding activities for several weeks after the surgery as directed by the surgeon.
- Follow-up Appointments: The patient will be seen by the surgeon for follow-up appointments to monitor the healing process and to ensure that the incision is healing well. The surgeon will also check the position of the implant, the healing process and the overall results.
